Exercises of Practical Life
Practical life activities provide the foundation for all other activities in the Montessori classroom, fulfilling your child's need to be independent. By engaging in purposeful activities children learn to take care of themselves, others and the environment helping them to develop respect, patience, self-confidence and independence. These activities involve tasks such as pouring, spooning, cleaning up after themselves, dressing, practicing grace and courtesy, taking care of oneself and their environment.
Sensorial Activities
Sensorial materials were designed to refine the child's sense of discrimination. These materials with their carefully outlined exercises help your child to sequence, discriminate, order and categorize their impressions and experiences, equipping them the opportunity to materialize abstractions on their own. Children enjoy working with the sensorial material repeatedly and soon develop their own variations on the lessons originally presented to them.
Language Activities
The learning of language is truly the child's most remarkable intellectual achievement. The Montessori language material and activities enable the child to develop his abilities to communicate effectively by enriching his vocabulary and writing and reading readiness. In the Montessori environment, emphasis is placed on the process of acquiring language. Knowledge is constructed by mental and physical activity rather than passive learning. Writing is taught before reading through the direct and indirect aims of the Montessori Practical Life and Sensorial works. In the Montessori 3-6 Language curriculum, writing itself is seen as direct preparation for reading.
Mathematics Activities
The mathematics activities involve counting and understanding number relationships and concepts, with an overview of the functions of the decimal system. The materials provided in the mathematics and sensorial areas outline and lay the groundwork for future learning of more advanced mathematics concepts. This prepares your child for an abstract understanding of sound reasoning and developing problem-solving capabilities.
Cultural Activities
The cultural lessons (geography, botany, zoology, history, science, music, art, and nature study) make the classroom vibrant, enthusing your child to feel connected to the global human family. These cultural themes instill creativity and expand your child’s limitless imagination with a reflection of the universe in totality.
Our Montessori Toddler & Bambini Program offers so much more than just childcare. This beautifully designed program for children 18 months to 3 years will foster your young child's emerging independence and desire for exploration.
During the first three years of life, children develop more rapidly than at any other time in their lives. These are the years that lay the foundation for later learning. We strive to ensure our classrooms safely support your child's drive to do things independently, observe others, explore freely, and express their creativity and curiosity.
The routines of everyday living are the foundation of the Montessori Toddler & Bambini Programs. Activities in the environment support social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development. Learning objectives for your child at this age include developing skills such as language, concentration, problem solving, visual discrimination, and physical coordination.
Kinder Music - Music & Movement
Our music program introduces the children to the language of music and gives them an opportunity to express music coherently in a collaborative and encouraging environment. Children who participate in singing, storytelling, dancing, movement, and instrument activities not only highlight their musical development but could further refine their developmental needs in social interaction, impulse control, spatial awareness, and focused listening.
French Program
We have introduced a French program here at Richmond Montessori. We will be learning the basics of our countries second official language from a special guest teacher. Staring with numbers, colours, and moving forward with animals and foods! This will be done with Montessori language and math materials and with lots of songs and even some dancing!
Kids Yoga
Our child-friendly yoga program is introduced with a combination of music, games, and stories along with simple yoga poses in a light-hearted manner. The combination of examples play and personal discovery will help children discover yoga for themselves. Children will flourish in a setting created to enhance their strengths, and encourage confidence.
Healthy Snack Program
A healthy and balanced snack is provided at the school. The snack program is carefully planned and selected to ensure they are safe for all children attending the school. The Snack Menu for the month is posted on the bulletin board for your information.
We have many exciting and engaging activities planned for our summer program. The summer program is a bit different from our normal school year program. Every two weeks we will be having a different theme and will be spending as much time as possible playing, exploring, and discovering outside. Our classroom will be transformed to suit the designated theme of the respective weeks. We have many arts and craft ideas already in the works!
Similar to our normal school year program, our Summer Program maintains a caring and thoughtfully prepared environment, while providing many unique individual and group, age-appropriate experiences for the children. The Montessori principles of independence, grace, and courtesy towards each other are always encouraged in every activity through most of the activities are different from those during the school year.
We plan several special outings for the summer months.
